Charlton Kings Community Players – March 2011 Newsletter

My Fair Lady

What an amazing show! We hope that if you weren’t involved in it you were able to go and see it. This was such a big production where many hours were spent in rehearsals and preparing for the performances over the previous 6 months.

There may have been a few sleepless nights but the cast still had great fun. A big thank you to everyone involved including all their families.

AGM Tuesday 26th April, 2011 7.30pm Kings Hall

It is that time of year again! The AGM, Annual General Meeting, will be taking place on 26thApril, 2011 in King’s Hall, Please come along!

WHY? Well the AGM has to take place each year, about this time to let all the members of the Players know how the committee organised the past year; how much money was made and what it was spent on; what exciting things happened during the year; to look at what plans are in place for the coming year and the most important part, what you the members want to see happen! OH! and we have to re- elect the committee!

Would you like to join the Committee?  Just let us know, I am sure we can find a chair. Enthusiastic members are always welcomed!

Tea, coffee, squash, fizzy drinks and biscuits will be ready.

The evening will include some singing and also a play reading or readings.

Do come it will be a good evening but do bring your suggestions for future events and shows for the Community Players – the committee will be listening!

‘A MAN FOR THIS SEASON’

The script for the Passion Play is now written and developed; it has a title, although, strictly speaking, the ‘season’ is April 2012!  More than twenty copies have been circulated for comment, and a number of very helpful suggestions have been made and incorporated.

Although the production seems far away in the future I now realise that we need to ensure that people know about it during Lent and Easter this year.  Somehow the idea of a ‘Passion Play’ in the height of Summer, however up-to-date the action, is rather difficult to grasp!

I am now looking for five directors to direct one act each in the five locations of the play.  The plan is for the directors and myself to audition for the principal actors, probably next Autumn, but for each of the five churches to be particularly involved in the production side of ‘their’ act in ‘their’ location.

There are now ten male parts and eight female parts, seven of which have been written with teenagers in mind.  There are also opportunities for a further four non-speaking but active young followers/’disciples’, and we shall also be looking for six police/soldiers and a number of involved crowd members.  We also of course need a large and growing crowd to walk through the community from Holy Apostles Church and The Precinct.

I have not yet found a ‘Josh’/Jesus nor ‘Jude’ or ‘Pete’, but I am starting to look..!  If you know of anyone who might like the excitement and challenge of these surprisingly contemporary parts, do encourage them to get in touch (01242-526947 petgra274@yahoo.co.uk)

There is an A5 leaflet available to give you and them more information and a slip to fill in. The project is going to be very exciting for the community but its success will depend very much on your involvement and support.

Thank you.

Peter Grainger
